July 19
No good, very bad, terrible day
7:10 p.m.
— 300 block of North Shore Road. Traffic Violation. Police observed a blue Ford Taurus with a tag attached to it that was registered to a white Ford pickup truck. Police pulled over the driver and discovered he was driving with a suspended driver’s license. To add to his bad day, the man admitted to also walking his dog on the beach. The man was carted off to jail; animal control took possession of the dog; and a tow truck took the car away.

Door force winds
7:49 p.m.
— 600 block of Halyard Lane. Alarm. Police responded to a burglar alarm and discovered a rear bedroom door was not completely secure, because the bottom pin of a double door was loose. High winds could have attributed to the incident.

July 20
Wi-Fi on you
10:20 p.m.
— 700 block of Longboat Court. Suspicious Vehicle. A woman called to report someone sitting inside a sport utility vehicle outside of her home. The woman in the vehicle told police she was using a nearby Wi-Fi network because her Internet was not functioning at home.

Dropped cell
1:57 p.m.
— 4600 block of GMD. Larceny. A man reported a missing cellular phone and believes a man may have taken it while he and his wife were in the Gulf.

Cursing an orange streak
3:36 p.m.
— 100 block of Broadway. Disturbance. A woman reported that a man with an orange bathing suit was drunk and swearing at her children at the Broadway beach access. When she asked him to get away from her children, he got in her face and continued to curse. Police couldn’t find the foul-mouthed man or his wife.

Wii want you gone
6:51 p.m.
— 600 block of Companion Way. Trespassing. A woman who had overstayed her welcome at a couple’s rental home was issued a trespass warning after the couple got sick and tired of her getting drunk and causing disturbances. The final straw for the couple? She cut the wire to their Nintendo Wii game system.

July 21
Some buddy
12:01 a.m.
— 6000 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. A man called to report that his buddy left him at Cannons Marina, where they had run out of gas on a boat, and to another buddy’s car to get some gas. Police located the buddy and arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Village vagrant
12:40 p.m.
— Town Dock. Suspicious Person. A Village resident called to report a homeless person who had parked his bicycle in some mangroves and was loitering near the town dock on Linley Street. The man told police he was on his way to Bradenton to sell some aluminum cans and agreed to get moving.

July 23
Missing luggage
12:06 p.m.
— 4700 block of GMD. Larceny. A couple reported that a piece of luggage that fell off their luggage cart on the way to their hotel room was missing. The couple had forgotten to go back and get the luggage after it fell off the cart.

July 24
Tag seized
12:47 p.m.
— 300 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. Police stopped a car after discovering the tag was revoked and the plate was to be seized. The driver, who claimed the car belonged to his stepfather, was issued a ticket for no proof of insurance and the car was towed away.

Free ride
6:43 p.m.
— 400 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a man for pulling too far into the intersection of Longboat Club Road and Gulf of Mexico Drive. The driver was issued tickets for not having a driver’s license and given a ride back to work. The car was dropped off at a nearby gas station to be picked up by a licensed driver.

Leaves of grass
11:37 p.m.
— 6000 block of GMD. Narcotics Violation. A man was pulled over for speeding and weaving into the bicycle lane and into oncoming traffic. The trembling driver would not allow police to search the car, but police observed marijuana leaves down the front of his white T-shirt when explaining his traffic citation to him. Police found marijuana and a pipe in the car and issued him a notice to appear in court for drugs and drug paraphernalia.

July 25
Lost in translation
10:08 a.m.
— 3100 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. A woman with a Guatemala passport and no driver’s license was pulled over for tailgating and given tickets for following too closely and driving with a suspended driver’s license. Police used an online translation website in the back of a patrol car to communicate with the woman.
