First-time buyers push home sales 8.9%

The Manatee Association of Realtors today reported a sixth consecutive month of sales gains thanks to first-time home buyers taking advantage of the most favorable conditions.
Bookworms head 'under the sea'

Families gathered at Little Bookworms on Lakewood Main Street from noon to 2 p.m., July 11 for the store’s special Under the Sea Celebration event. Mark Jones was on hand to sign “Mermaid Dance,” the book he illustrated, and to read it during story time. Children also enjoyed face painting, crafts and games.

Zoo brings rainforest to Goddard

Children at The Goddard School in Lakewood Ranch got a first-hand look at rainforest animals during a special presentation Friday morning. Zoo Ventures instructor Ashley Hodges of the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa brought several animals to the East County preschool as the culmination of a weeklong study of Brazil.
