Booker Middle School teacher honored as Teacher of the Year

Booker Middle School teacher and orchestra director, Victor Fernandez, was honored as Sarasota County’s Teacher of the Year on Thursday, Jan. 26 at the Hyatt Regency. Fernandez was chosen from three finalists and will represent the school district at the Florida Department of Education Macy's Teacher of the year gala.

To receive an application for appointment, please contact the Office of the City Auditor and Clerk located in City Hall, 1565 First Street, or by calling 954-4160 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Two seats for the Employee Retirement Account Committee are open for those with banking and investment management experience.

Power outages impact north Key residents

According to FPL spokesman Neil Nissan, crews responded to the scene and restored power to affected residences by 9 a.m.

LONGBOAT KEY -

Residents on the north end of Longboat Key were among the 900 FPL customers who lost power early this morning.

Polo pros, cowboys saddle up for SMR Cup

The public is invited to see the roping and penning portion of the competition from 2-5 p.m. Jan. 28, at the rodeo arena at the Sarasota Polo Club. Admission is free.

Polo players will take on Schroeder-Manatee Ranch cowboys this weekend in a three-day competition.
