Winston "Cash" Monroe Register died on March 28, 2024, at the age of 88.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn "Snookie" Register; his four children, Carmen, Kevin, Paula, and Pam; his nine grandchildren; and his 10 great-grandchildren.

Register was born on Aug. 21, 1935, in Bismarck, North Dakota.

After graduating from the University of North Dakota, Register was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army and served 13 months in Korea. He also served in the North Dakota House of Representatives.

Lawn Party event chair and co-proprietor of the Lazy Lobster Michael Garey couldn't put Register's dedication to the Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key into words.

He was always alongside President Chris Sachs at the Salvation Army bell-ringing station outside of Publix. Garey said Register always bought numerous tables at the annual Lawn Party as well.

"The two things that come to mind when I think of Cash is kind and loyal," said Garey. "He was loyal to his family, his friends, the Kiwanis Club, even the Lazy Lobster. He and his wife were here every week. One year for our hostess' birthday, he brought her flowers. He just always made sure to think of everyone."

A service will be held in honor of Register at 11 a.m. on April 3 at Christ Church of Longboat Key, 6400 Gulf of Mexico Drive A.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made out to the Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key at PO Box 8097, Longboat Key, FL 34228.

Correction: This story has been updated to include "In lieu of flower donations."
