High school football roundup: Week 10

Five area teams get key wins as the end of the FHSAA regular season approaches — and the SSAA playoffs begin.

East County

The Out-of-Door Academy (4-5) won its Sunshine State Athletic Association Class 4A quarterfinal game 42-28 over All Saints' Academy (6-3) at home. Senior running back/safety Jack Meyers had a seven-yard touchdown run, a one-yard touchdown run and an interception. Sophomore running back Allen Clark had a three-yard touchdown run. Junior guard Marvin Palominos had a one-yard touchdown run. Sophomore running back Heath DeRusso had a one-yard touchdown run. Senior defensive lineman Robert Crisci recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. The Thunder will next play St. Edward's High (4-5) in the SSAA Class 4A semifinals at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 on the road.

Braden River High (4-4) won 35-7 over Southeast High (0-9) at home. Junior quarterback Lucas Despot threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to junior receiver/running back Yahshua Edwards, a five-yard touchdown to senior receiver Matt Schefer, a six-yard touchdown to Edwards and a four-yard touchdown to senior receiver Alexander Garnes. Edwards also had a 10-yard rushing touchdown. The Pirates will next play at 7 p.m. Oct. 31 against Wildwood High (2-6) on the road before closing out their season at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 against Robinson High (6-2) on the road. 

Lakewood Ranch High (4-5) won 24-20 over Bayshore High (4-5) at home. Sophomore quarterback Liam Fernandez threw a 20-yard touchdown to senior receiver Connor Anthony and ran for a five-yard touchdown. Junior running back Cullen McRae II had a 10-yard rushing touchdown. Senior kicker Aaron Clark hit a 44-yard field goal. The Mustangs will next play Booker High (5-4) at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3 on the road. 

Parrish Community High (6-3) lost 49-10 to Port Charlotte High (7-2) on the road. Senior quarterback Jackson Volz ran for a five-yard touchdown. Junior kicker Owen Tomlinson hit a 27-yard field goal. The Bulls will next play at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 against George Jenkins High (4-4) at home. 


Sarasota

Riverview High (5-4) won 48-6 over Sarasota High (1-8) at home. Rams sophomore running back Is Belt scored rushing touchdowns of 57, 23 and one yards. Rams junior running back DJ Johnson had a three-yard rushing touchdown. Rams senior quarterback Braxton Thomas threw a nine-yard touchdown to senior receiver Anthony Campbell. Rams senior quarterback Jeremiah Dawson threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Christian Leetzow and ran for a 20-yard touchdown. Sailors senior kicker Andrew Clayton hit field goals of 43 and 25 yards. The Rams will next play Charlotte High (4-5) at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at home. The Sailors will next play IMG Academy White (7-1) at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at home. 

Cardinal Mooney High (7-2) won 78-12 over SmartEn Sports Academy (0-9) at home. The Cougars will next play Bayshore High (4-5) at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 on the road. 

Booker High (5-4) lost 26-18 to Lemon Bay High (8-1) on the road. Junior quarterback Jordan Johnson threw a 50-yard touchdown to senior receiver Joshua Burrows and a 48-yard touchdown to sophomore running back Takurian Smith. Senior running back Ahmad Hunter had a 25-yard rushing touchdown. The Tornadoes will next play Lakewood Ranch High (4-5) at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at home.
