Moran named chair of Sarasota County Commission

Mike Moran will be the next chairman of the Sarasota County Commission. 

Moran was selected for the post by his peers during Friday’s annual planning retreat, when commissioners identified their strategic priorities for 2024.

Moran takes the gavel from Ron Cutsinger, who served as chair for the current calendar year. The chair presides at commission meetings and represents the board during ceremonial functions. Commissioner Joe Neunder was selected vice chair and Commissioner Neil Rainford as pro tem.

The commissioners will continue to focus on policy agenda items including water quality initiatives and health of the bay, affordable housing, public safety, south county regional park planning and the future of River Road. 

The commissioners will finalize their strategic priorities during their Jan. 10, 2024 regular meeting.
