Cops Corner: Police decline man's request not to arrest him on his birthday

Sept. 28

BIRTHDAY BEHIND BARS

3600 block 53rd Avenue East, Bradenton

Trespass: A deputy responded to the report of a man trespassing at a park. The deputy saw the man walking from the picnic benches toward the bathroom, and the enter the bathroom in an attempt to hide. The deputy made contact with the man and asked what he was doing on the property since he had been trespassed before. The man said he just got out of jail for the same thing. The deputy explained he had to arrest the man for the violation. The man said, "Can't you just let me walk away because it is my birthday?" The deputy told the man that if he let him go, he would come right back to the park as soon as he left. The man laughed and said, "Yes, I probably would." The man was arrested and transported to jail.

SUSPECT MAY HAVE BEEN LINEBACKER

8400 Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota

Criminal mischief: At 4:15 p.m., a deputy arrested a woman on an outstanding warrant. The woman was placed in the back seat of the patrol car but became upset with being arrested and started banging her head on the cage. She was removed for her safety, and once outside, began banging her head on the back of the car, causing a four-inch dent in the exterior near the rear window. She was charged with criminal mischief.

UNHAPPY CUSTOMER GETS ARTISTIC

5200 block of University Parkway, Sarasota

Vandalism: A store employee contacted the Sheriff's Office to report vandalism performed by an unknown person. The unknown person came to the business between 7 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. and in spray paint left the comments, "You (expletive)" "Thieves" "Liars" and "Fraud" on windows and doors of the business. The concrete on the sidewalk in front of the business also was spray painted with an expletive. The lock mechanism on the front door was damaged but no attempt was made to enter the business. The damage has been estimated to be $200. Deputies are waiting for the business to provide them with the security camera footage.

BEST PLANT IN THE JOINT?

3100 block of 54th Drive East, Bradenton

Found property: A Sheriff's Office deputy responded after an apartment manager stated she had seen a marijuana plant as she drove past one of the apartments in her complex in her golf cart. The deputy did see a marijuana plant in the window of the apartment as he approached. He made contact with a woman who lived in the apartment and advised her he needed to remove the plant. She said she didn't know what the deputy was talking about. The deputy told her he already had seen the plant and she needed to bring it to him. She went and got the plant and said she didn't know anything about the plant and just found it. She said visitors must have brought it. The plant was removed and placed into property and evidence for destruction.
