Panhandle team takes Sarasota Baseball Classic title

Tate High, from the western Panhandle town of Cantonment, is the 2017 Sarasota Baseball Classic champion. 

The Aggies defeated Jacksonville's Trinity Christian 3-2 in the championship game Thursday night to take home the trophy. The round prior, Tate knocked host Sarasota High out of the winner's bracket with a 2-0 victory. 

The Sailors finished the tournament 2-2 with wins against Charlotte and Lakeland's George Jenkins. 

Riverview went 1-3, ending its tournament with a 4-2 win over Manatee. 

Tate High's Gabe Castro was named the 2017 tournament MVP, and Kyler Hultgren was named Best Hitter. 

Mosley High's (Lynn Haven) RJ Yeager was named Best Defensive Player, and Trinity Christian's AJ Labas was named Best Pitcher.
