Manatee County officials are assessing local damages and community needs as the last bands of rain from Hurricane Hermine pass through the area.

Rain totals overnight reached as high as 10 inches in some areas, and another inch or so is expected to fall today.

“The amount of rain we received overnight was not as great as predicted, so roads are better than we anticipated,” said Manatee County Emergency Management Chief Don Hermey said. “But, there are pockets where there’s water over the roads. Anna Maria Island roads are under water. We’re asking people to only go out if necessary and to use extreme caution when you do.”

Manatee County offices reopened today at 10 a.m., but the School District remains closed.

Lakewood Ranch Main Street’s monthly music concert, Music on Main, has been cancelled. High school football games, including for Braden River and Lakewood Ranch highs, also are cancelled. Lakewood’s game has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. Braden River’s has not been rescheduled.

Manatee County transit is running today, except for trolley service to the islands because of flooding there.

Public works crews continue to distribute sandbags at five locations, including at Lakewood Ranch Park, 5350 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Lakewood Ranch, in East County.
