Noise relief for residents along parts of Interstate 75 is on its way.

The Florida Department of Transportation on May 18 began construction on a sound wall barrier on the west side of the interstate, just north of Fruitville Road.

Once complete, the wall will run north to the southern end of the lake at Nathan Benderson Park.

Contractors will set auger-cast piles in place and then slide wall panels in place to create the wall. It then will be prepped and painted.

The project is part a larger $74.5 million project to reconfigure the interchange of University Parkway and I-75 to a diverging diamond design.
