UPDATE: University Parkway reopens after fatal crash

A single-vehicle accident resulted in three fatalities this morning.

Three 21-year-old residents were killed in a single-vehicle crash on University Parkway this morning.

Wesley C. McCurley and Michael P. Duffy, of Sarasota, and Dane W. Custer, of Bradenton, died in the accident, which occurred at roughly 3 a.m., according to a Sarasota Police Department news release. Emergency personnel transported 21-year-old Thomas Bentley to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

McCurley was driving the vehicle.

Police reopened the portion of University Parkway from Desoto Road to Old Bradenton Road at 8:30 a.m.

Earlier: The Sarasota Police Department has closed the portion of University Parkway between Desoto Road and Old Bradenton Road following a crash at 3 a.m. this morning.

The crash resulted in three fatalities, while emergency personnel transported a fourth victim to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, according to Sarasota Police spokeswoman Genevieve Judge. Officers believe speed may have caused the accident.

As of 6:50 a.m., all lanes University Parkway remains closed near the site of the crash.
