Andy the escapist is safely back at the Sarasota Humane Society.

The shy hound dog, who was being fostered on Siesta Key, climbed a tree and jumped a 12-foot fence last week. Siesta Key Association President Michael Shay sent an email asking for help locating the dog, and people began calling Jeanne Francisco, a volunteer at the Humane Society of Sarasota.

Residents spotted Andy, appropriately enough, near the Old Salty Dog restaurant, and he was captured using humane traps in that area on Feb. 17, according to Shay. He was in good health, according to Francisco.

“He looked really great for his 10 day vacation on Siesta,” she said.

Andy is still up for adoption, she added, for anyone who needs a high-energy pet with a penchant for climbing.

Francisco and Shay both credited the network of individuals who called with sightings for Andy's safe capture.
