A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot a man Sunday afternoon after the man allegedly threatened a deputy with a knife.

Donna Stoddart called the Sheriff’s Office because her husband, Marc, 51, had been drinking and was threatening to harm her and himself with a knife. When deputies arrived at the home on the 4800 block of Bookelia Circle at approximately 4:50 p.m., Marc Stoddart was outside with the knife. He had cut his wrists and Donna Stoddart had fled from the house. The deputies asked Marc Stoddart to drop the knife repeatedly, which he did not do. Stoddart continued to refuse and then approached a deputy with the knife in a threatening manner, according to a news release.

The deputy then fatally shot the man.

There were no other injuries. The deputy is being placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
