The Concession Golf Club’s application to Manatee County to install a helipad will go before the planning commission tomorrow.
The Concession submitted the application last year, but after protests from neighboring communities, revised the application and moved the location of the helistop near its clubhouse, to reduce its effects on Panther Ridge neighbors to the east.
Neighbors submitted objections to the original location because some said a helicopter could spook horses, which would put both the horses and their handlers and riders in danger, as well as decrease property values for properties near the helistop.
Otto Jack Jr., The Concession’s spokesman, said in a previous Observer story that he’s not sure how often the helistop will be used, but he’s not expecting heavy traffic. Since 2006, there have been approximately five helicopter landings within the Concession.
The planning commissioners will review the application at tomorrow’s meeting, which begins at 9 a.m. in the Manatee County Administration building, 1112 Manatee Ave. West. The application will go on to the Manatee County commissioners for final consideration and approval or denial.
