John Randolph-Swainson, of Longboat Key and Chestnut Hill, Mass., died Oct. 20.

Mr. Randolph-Swainson was a lifelong sailor and made several trans-Atlantic cruises.  He won many races with the Bermuda Off-Shore Cruising Association on his sloop, Nick of Time.

He was a ham radio operator, and the VP 9 DL award in Bermuda was established in his honor.

He retired as vice president of American International in Bermuda.

Mr. Randolph-Swainson is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Nigel and Julie Swainson, of the United Kingdom, and Barbara Soares, of Bermuda; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be private.
