Hooked on the Longboat Key Historical Society’s fish fry? You might be out of luck.

The 11th annual Old Thyme Fish Fry, scheduled for Oct. 30, has been canceled.

The fish fry is the Historical Society’s biggest fundraiser of the year and dates back to the 1950s, when the newly formed Longboat Key volunteer fire department held a fish fry to raise money for its first fire truck.

The society resurrected the fish fry in 2005, and it has been a Key staple ever since. It has become one of the first major events of the fall, welcoming snowbirds back to the island.

“We had the cancel the fish fry due to a problem with a vendor, which couldn’t be solved in time,” Historical Society President Pam Coleman said.

Coleman said she hopes the Historical Society will host another event in the spring and plans on bringing back the fish fry next year.
