The Riverview High volleyball team is headed to the district championship for the first time since 2006.

The Rams, the No. 2 seed in the Class 8A-District 6 tournament, swept Lithia Newsome 25-17, 25-17, 25-15.

Kenzie Walker led the Rams with 13 kills and five digs. Courtney Searles added six blocks and three kills. Kayla Walker tallied 29 assists, 11 digs and four aces. Samantha Norden added 17 perfect passes, 14 digs and an ace.

With the win, Riverview earned a berth in next week’s regional tournament and will face district rival Manatee for the district title Oct. 22. The Hurricanes handed the Rams their lone loss of the season last month.
