Two East County students are earning money toward their college educations.

Jessica Zelitt, of Lakewood Ranch High, and Domenic Aluise, of Braden River High, recently received the Scobee Scholarship from the Florida Association for the Gifted (FLAG).

Eighty students applied throughout the state for the $1,000 scholarship.

"This speaks volumes of the educational opportunities these students had in all of their East County schools," said Roxanne Schunicht, the gifted coordinator at Lakewood Ranch and Braden River high schools.

Zelitt plays clarinet in her school's marching band and hopes to become a physicist.

Aluise is a member of the Technology Students Association (TSA), and he designed and built a prosthetic leg.
