For Robert E. Willis Elementary student Tyson Widmer, the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser in May for the American Heart Association came close to his heart.

“My Nino (grandmother) had three open-heart surgeries, and my grandpa Don has had a triple bypass surgery,” Widmer said. “Raising money helps people with heart problems, like them.”

The rising second-grade student teamed up with his two grandmothers, parents and family friends to raise more than $1,000 — more than any other Willis student.
