After more than year of construction, the new Gulf Gate Library will open to the public Saturday, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m.

The two-story, 24,920-square-foot building at 7112 Curtiss Ave. was constructed at the same location as the former building. Construction on the $7.69 million project began in September 2013.

Sarasota County commissioners, Friends of the Library and county staff will attend the ceremony. The public can then tour the library and enjoy refreshments.

The library’s normal hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
