The Heritage Harbour South Community Development District is set on slowing down speeders.

The district's supervisors have discussed speed deterrents, such as hiring an off-duty deputy, constructing speed bumps and adding stop signs, in hopes of stopping too-fast drivers from exceeding the community's 25 mph speed limit. At the board's Oct. 7 meeting, supervisors moved to delve into hiring a deputy to issue speeding tickets.

CDD supervisors asked District Manager Greg Cox to meet with the Manatee County Sherriff's Office to discuss bringing a deputy into the community during peak speeding times. Hours will be determined by the district and the sherriff's office, should an agreement be reached.

Supervisors will revisit the issue at their next meeting at 4 p.m. Nov. 12.
