Manatee County is currently accepting applications for its Historic Preservation Board.

The board authorizes or denies certificates of appropriateness on alterations or demolitions of historical structures. It also makes recommendations to the Manatee County Commission on preservation, restoration, renovation and the adapted reuse of historical buildings and sites.

The board will decrease from seven to five members after the county becomes a Certified Local Government later in the year, as expected.

Two member positions will be appointed for a two-year term and two for a three-year term and one for a four-year term. These appointments will take effect Jan. 1, 2015.

All eligible applicants must maintain a Manatee County residence. Applicants with professional experience in architecture, cultural anthropology, conservation or related fields are preferred.

Applications are due Oct. 31 and can be found at mymanatee.org/advisory_boards.
