+ World Rowing Championship logo revealed
After months of planning and designing, officials of the 2017 International Federation of Rowing Associations (FISA) World Championship released the next piece of the event’s puzzle — its logo.

Officials unveiled the design — a pelican perched on a post in the gulf — during a press conference May 10, at Nathan Benderson Park. It features a blue, yellow, orange and white seascape theme.

Officials expect the championship to attract more than 40,000 locals and visitors nationwide and internationally.

+ Road closure extended
Construction of a new waterline under the Manatee River will impact traffic longer than expected.

To complete the Fort Hamer waterline crossing project, Manatee County Public Works has closed Winding Stream Way from Upper Manatee River Road to the second gate into the Waterlefe community.

The road has been closed since April 28 and was originally rescheduled to open May 12, but county officials have extended the closure to June 12.

The waterline project is designed to provide connectivity and support to other waterlines across the county.

+ Manatee County School District to offer an app
Students and their families will soon be able to access school calendars, news and other tools from area schools’ websites on their cell phones.

The Manatee County School Ditrict is finishing the design of its iPhone and Android-friendly application.

Aside from obtaining school event information and a better, more cell-phone compatible view of the school district’s website, users will be able to add school calendar items to personal cell-phone calendars.

Through a partnership with Blackboard — a technology company — the district hopes to unveil its newest piece of technology closer to the start of the 2014-2015 school year.

Meetings & agendas
Manatee County Board of County Commissioners Meeting — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 20, at the County Administrative Center, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
