Town Manager Dave Bullock wants the Colony Beach & Tennis Resort Association to correct a rodent problem on the shuttered Colony Beach & Tennis Resort property.

A March 21 letter to Colony officials and attorneys reveals the town has received a complaint regarding rodent activity at 1620 Gulf of Mexico Drive.

“Our inspection of the property indicates that the rodent traps on the property need attention,” wrote Bullock in his letter. “Please have your extermination contractor inspect the site and address any issues.”

Bullock requests the association notify the town in writing the results of the inspection and any action taken or planned to correct the issue. The town has imposed a deadline of April 4 on Colony officials to correct the problem.

If the association doesn’t address the problem by April 4, Bullock said the town will notice a public hearing that will determine if the town can utilize the $100,000 cash bond the association has set aside for emergency issues.

The town also has the option of initiating code enforcement or nuisance hearing proceedings if the rodent issue isn’t addressed in a timely manner.
