A band of showers and thunderstorms will pass through Sarasota County today, bringing heavy rainfall to the area.

National Weather Service Tampa Bay forecasts the storms will impact the Sarasota County area late Tuesday morning, with the worst of the storm system passing through around noon. Sarasota County is under a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Tuesday.

According to a weather report from NWS Tampa Bay, the storm system was showing slight signs of strengthening going into Tuesday morning, although the threat of severe weather was still considered unlikely.

The forecast does call for wind gusts up to 50 mph among stronger storm cells within the system. The associated cold front will move through Tuesday evening and overnight.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office and Sarasota Police have both urged residents to use caution while driving under the hazardous conditions.
