Sarasota County Emergency Management Chief Ed McCrane will take questions from members of the Siesta Key Association at the regular meeting Thursday, Aug. 2, in Parish Hall at St. Boniface Episcopal Church.

McCrane is expected to discuss Tropical Storm Debby, which generated 4,170 applications for state and federal funding assistance in Florida in its wake, according to a news release from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Siesta Key residents can still qualify for federal aid to cover Debby-related property damage, and FEMA officials on Thursday opened a disaster recovery center at the Venice Town Hall for in-person assistance with aid requests.

After McCrane’s presentation, which will also highlight hurricane preparedness, Sarasota County Parks and Recreation manager George Tatge will speak to SKA members. His department conducted a minor seaweed removal on Siesta Key beach last week, and has been monitoring levels throughout this week.
