+ Commission approves Bullock contract
The Longboat Key Town Commission approved a three-year contract with Town Manager David Bullock at its July 2 regular meeting that extends his contract through Oct. 31, 2015. The commission reached consensus last month for Town Attorney David Persson to draft an agreement with Bullock, who became interim town manager Nov. 1, 2011, and earns $180,000 annually.

The contract also includes the option for a three-year renewal at the end of the first three-year period. Both the commission and Bullock have the right to end the agreement with 90 days’ notice.

+ Vehicle break-ins reported in CC Shores
Longboat Key police are actively investigating six vehicle break-ins that occurred over the weekend in Country Club Shores. All involved vehicles were unlocked and contained cash, wallets and other valuables in plain sight, according to acting Police Chief Pete Cumming.

Cumming said that police have promising information. Police don’t believe that the incidents are related to a string of similar thefts that occurred last weekend in the Longbeach Village but have not ruled out the possibility.

+ Weekly Publix progress report
Tropical Storm Debby put a damper on Publix construction during the early part of last week, but the supermarket is now ready to raise the roof. Publix obtained a building permit June 27, to put up its new roof at a total implicated cost of $298,500, according to the permit.

A topping-off party to celebrate the placement of the roof is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 12.
Night construction will take place on weekdays of this week, excluding Wednesday, July 4, to allow for the completion of an internal pour for its flooring.

+ Commission approves Dry Dock site plan
The Longboat Key Town Commission unanimously approved a site-plan amendment to allow Dry Dock Waterfront Grill owner Eric Hammersand to construct a 1,107-square-foot addition to the restaurant’s existing second-floor dining area. The vote took place in a special meeting held Friday, June 29.
