Publix Supermarkets Inc. got the green light from the Longboat Key Town Commission to move forward with its plan for a new Avenue of the Flowers store.
The commission approved three outline-development plans on second reading and public hearing in addition to a site-plan amendment for the project.
According to the proposed schedule, the Avenue of the Flowers store will close in April and re-open by December 2012.
Also at its Feb. 6 meeting, the commission:
Discussed a letter drafted by Town Manager David Bullock on behalf of the commission expressing concerns about AirTran’s recent announcement that it will end SRQ service.
Approved on second reading and public hearing:
• An ordinance that amends the Zoning Code to provide for alternative methods to meet code requirements for landscape buffers in transition yards;
• An ordinance amending requirements to include a six-month window for property owners whose required landscaping was involuntarily damaged or destroyed to bring their landscaping into compliance with town code.
