+ Publix to go before the Town Commission
The Longboat Key Town Commission will consider on second reading and public hearing three separate outline development plans (ODPs) related to the Lakeland-based Publix Super Markets Inc.’s proposal for a new Avenue of the Flowers store. The commission will also consider a site-plan amendment. If the commission approves the site plans and ODPs, Publix can apply for a building permit. Publix is expected to close its existing store in April and re-open by December.

+ Town, Key Club file appeals
The town of Longboat Key and the Longboat Key Club and Resort have filed their petitions for a writ of certiorari in the Second District Court of Appeals in Lakeland. The second-tier petitions challenge Judge Charles E. Roberts’ ruling in which he granted a writ of certiorari to the Islandside Property Owners Coalition and L’Ambiance and Sanctuary condominium associations.

+ Citizens decreases its maximum coverage limit
The Office of Insurance Regulation has approved Citizens Insurance’s request to decrease the maximum coverage limit from $2 million to $1 million for personal residential policies in wind-eligible areas, according to a statement on Citizens’ website, citizensfla.com.

As of Feb. 1, Citizens will no longer write new policies for single-family homes with a replacement-cost value of more than $1 million and single condominium units with a combined dwelling and replacement cost of more than $1 million, and as of May 1, the not-for-profit government corporation will no longer renew such policies.

Secur-All Insurance Longboat Key manager/agent George Ceshker said many Longboat Key homes will be impacted by the changes.
