The results are in for the 2012 Citizens Opinion Survey for Sarasota County, and although the economy is still the top concern for those polled, statistics show a downward trend.

The study commissioned by Sarasota County, which was conducted by the Florida Institute of Government at the University of South Florida, ended with 45% of the 801 residents polled citing the economy as the most important issue for their personal well-being. More than half of those polled in the same survey last year responded similarly.

Further, the number of people who claim they are free from financial stress grew from 14% in 2011 to 28% this year, and the proportion of those who said unemployment is the biggest threat to Sarasota County fell 10 points to 42%.

Interestingly, only 2% of the residents surveyed said the housing market climate is the biggest threat to Sarasota County.
