The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office released the arrest report of a Thursday shooting this morning, which reveals that a tenant being served a final eviction notice removed a black handgun from a blue duffel bag and pointed it directly at a police officer. The tenant’s actions led a Sarasota County Sheriff Civil Deputy to fire several rounds at the tenant.

Officer Ryan Frailing told William F. Case, 49, to remove his hand from the duffel bag several times before he did so and revealed the gun, placed his finger over the trigger and pointed it at Frailing.

Frailing, in fear for his life, began firing several shots at Case while pushing a nearby witness and property owner out of harm’s way as Case retreated into the house.

Several officers with the Sarasota Police Department and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office responded, secured the Ringling Boulevard area and located Case, who suffered two gunshot wounds and is in stable condition at an undisclosed medical facility.

Case was charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

The shooting occurred at 10:18 a.m. Thursday at 2601 Ringling Blvd. at the corner of Euclid Avenue.
