Planning Commission recommends Rye Road rezone

Members of the Manatee County Planning Commission have recommended approval of a rezone of about 35 acres on Rye Road.

Medallion Home is requesting to rezone 35.26 acres at 181 Rye Road from general agriculture to planned development residential and approve a preliminary site plan for 100 lots for single-family detached residences.

The proposal now is slated to go before the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners for consideration May 3.

Medallion Home President Pete Logan said his company has owned the property since late 2002.
"We're a bit out from being able to develop it," he said. "We're trying to get things entitled and let the market dictate what product we build there."

Logan said he is not sure when development of the project would start.
