+ New College Foundation makes appointment
New College of Florida President Dr. Gordon Michalson has appointed banking and nonprofit executive Clint Monts de Oca interim executive vice president of the New College Foundation. The appointment was made on the recommendation of the executive committee of the New College Foundation, headed by foundation board Chairman Howard Isermann.

Monts de Oca assumes overall leadership of the foundation. Current New College Foundation President Andrew Walker is on an extended leave of absence due to a family health issue.

+ Ringling Picnic hosts evening festival Friday
Ringling Picnic, an outdoor food-truck dining experience at the corner of Ringling Boulevard and Links Avenue, is hosting its first evening hours operation event called the Spring Fling Fest from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 13. Ringling Picnic is open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The free event will feature six food trucks, food specials, palm readers, music, hoop demonstrations and raffles. Beer and wine will be provided by Evie’s Tavern.

+ Free document shredding offered Saturday
EdgeTech Document Shredding will be providing a free shred day for the community from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 14, as part of USF Day. The public can bring up to five boxes of private material to be shredded to the USF-SRQ campus at 8350 N. Tamiami Trail.  EdgeTech trucks will be located in the south lot. Only paper will be accepted — no plastics or computer hardware. Log on toedgetechdocs.com for information on what can be shredded.

+ New College board of trustees seat sought
The Trustee Nominating Committee of the Florida Board of Governors is seeking candidates for an appointment to the Board of Trustees at New College in Sarasota. Applicants do not need to live in the immediate area of a Florida public university to serve in this capacity, and there are sometimes members on university boards of trustees from other states.

The deadline for applications for the New College vacancy is 5 p.m. Friday, April 27.
