Eviction notice leads to shooting

UPDATE: The man shot has been identified as William F. Case, 49. He has been transferred to a different medical facility, but technically in custody and under guard until he can be released from the hospital.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that occurred at 10:18 a.m. today in Sarasota.

A civil deputy was serving a Final Notice of Eviction to the resident of a duplex at 2601 Ringling Blvd., at the corner of Euclid Avenue, when a man answered the door with a weapon. In response to the threat, the deputy fired his weapon, wounding the subject.

The man was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition.
