Sarasota County Parks and Recreation is now accepting registration for summer camps. Summer camp programs are offered over 11 weeks for children entering grades 1 through 9. Program and registration information is available online at www.parksonline.scgov.net  in the 2012 Summer Camp Guide online at www.scgov.net/parksandrecreation or at any Sarasota County recreation center, library or county building.

Traditional day camp will occur June 11 through July 6 and July 9 through Aug. 3. Children entering grades 1 through 5 will enjoy three field trips every week and on-site activities. Children can attend from as early as 7:30 a.m. to as late as 5:45 p.m.

Adventure Camp will be held June 11 through July 6 and July 9 through Aug. 3. Children entering grades 6 through 9 will enjoy challenging activities at Colonial Oaks Park in Sarasota and four weekly field trips.

More than 25 specialty camps are scheduled throughout the summer and allow the opportunity to focus on a favorite activity. New specialty camps offered this year include Beach Volleyball Camp, Bricks 4 Kidz Camp, Fishing Camp, Sand Sculpture Camp, Skateboard Camp and Surf and Paddle Camp.

Therapeutic Camp for special-needs children is again offered at Oak Park School and runs from June 11 through Aug. 3 in conjunction with the summer school schedule.

Volunteer opportunities are available for youths entering grade 10 or higher to complete service hours needed for school.

Financial assistance is available to qualifying Sarasota County residents. All summer camp staff members are fully screened, including an FBI fingerprint and background check.
