Two East County Salons are helping to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research.

Staff members and clients of Boutique Out East Salon & Spa are showing their support for October as Breast Cancer Awareness months by adding a bit of pink to their hairstyles.

The salon now is offering pink hair extension pieces for $20 per bundle. Proceeds will benefit a local breast cancer patient, salon Owner Shelly Gutowski said.

"As a stylist, this is my way of helping," Gutowski said. "It just seemed like a neat idea."

Additionally, Cutting Loose Salon and Spa, 8429 Honore Ave., Sarasota, is hosting a cut-a-thon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 9 to raise money for CSC, Florida Suncoast, a non-profit organization providing a variety of free services to cancer patients.

Haircuts by designers and senior stylists will be $20. Chair massages and professional make-up applications also will be available for $10 each for the cause.

For information about Boutique Out East, contact the spa at 746-1500 or stop by the salon, 2559 Lakewood Ranch Blvd. Bradenton. For information about Cutting Loose Salon and Spa, contact 358-6000.
