Longtime Lakewood Ranch Community Development District 2 Supervisor Don O'Leary today submitted to the board his letter of resignation.

O'Leary's resignation is effective Oct. 1. The Edgewater resident and retired New York City firefighter said the decision is a result of his being appointed as a fire commissioner for East Manatee Fire Rescue. O'Leary will be sworn in as a fire commissioner Oct. 17.

"I feel very honored about it," O'Leary said of his appointment. "It's very comfortable for me."

The CDD 2 board now is tasked with finding a replacement for O'Leary, who has three years remaining on his term.

District 2 residents interested in the position should send their resumes to Town Hall's Executive Director, Eva Rey.
