Two East County businesses are holding events this weekend to benefit cancer-fighting organizations.

Honback Chiropractic and Wellness, and Crowder's Gifts & Gadgets will host its first ever High Heel-a-Thon Saturday, while Cutting Loose Salon will host a cut-a-thon Sunday.

The First Annual Hornback Chiropractic High Heel-A-Thon will be held at 9 a.m. Oct 8, at Crowder's Gifts & Gadgets, 2401 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Bradenton.

A High Heel-A-Thon 100-yard dash will start at 10 a.m. Race entry is $30 the day of the event, with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. Other festivities include free hot dogs, a decorate-your-pet contest, a petting zoo and pony rides and more.

Additionally, Cutting Loose Salon will host a Cut-a-Thon event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 9 to benefit Lakewood Ranch-based Cancer Support Community, an organization that provides free psychological and educational services to cancer patients and individuals affected by cancer.

Salon designers and senior stylists will be offering haircuts for $20. Professional makeup applications and 15-minute chair massages will be available for $10. The salon also will be raffling off a gift basket work more than $500 to help the cause.

"Our goal is to raise $5,000," said Coral Peas, owner of both Cutting Loose Salon and AfterHours. "We believe in supporting organizations within our local community and appreciate that the new CSC facility has created an environment that offers physical and spiritual comfort and provides a healing place for thousands in our area."
