An elderly woman was cited with careless driving Monday after her vehicle collided with a marked Manatee County Sheriff’s Office patrol car.

A sheriff’s office report states Dep. Greg Bass was driving his vehicle eastbound on State Road 64 East and entered the right turn lane at the 6100 block of S.R. 64 when a vehicle driven by Adys Rodriguez, 74, veered into him.

Rodriguez was driving her car in the far right straight lane of S.R. 64. She saw the Dunkin Donuts on the south side of the road in the 6200 block of S.R. 64 and turned right from the straight lane in an attempt to get there. Bass was in the process of passing Rodriguez as she made the turn and was unable to avoid the collision, the report states.

The right front corner panel of Rodriguez’s car struck the left back door and wheel well of Bass’s patrol car.

There were no injuries and both cares were driven from the scene.
