Athletic Edge Sports is joining the Premier Sports Campus at Lakewood Ranch with a new performance training facility on Main Street at Lakewood Ranch, Schroeder-Manatee Ranch announced this afternoon.

Athletic Edge Sports will offer programs for individual athletes and teams of all sports year-round. Indoor training will be available at the facility on Main Street combined with field work at Premier Sports Campus.

The 8,500-square-foot training facility will feature a Revolution Field Turf Speed and agility area, Woodway treadmills, Microgate timing systems, Vertimax jump platforms and a room dedicated for yoga and Pilates classes. In addition, the facility will house a team meeting and video room along with a lounge where athletes can recover in between training sessions.

“Athletic Edge Sports at Premier Sports Campus will be the training choice of athletes locally, joining athletes who travel from all over the U.S. and abroad to train in Lakewood Ranch, Florida,” said owner Mike Gough.

Gough is a strength and conditioning specialist who over the past 12 years has trained countless elite amateur and professional athletes looking to elevate their sport performance conditioning. The list includes five NFL first-round draft picks, more than 55 NFL players, CFL, NBA, NHL and MLB athletes along with Olympians. He is a former strength and conditioning coach for the Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Indians Organization and has owned Athletic Edge in Lakewood Ranch for nine years.

“We pride ourselves on offering athletes the best in sports performance training, from programs to coaching to training equipment. This combination will allow the athletes to reach their athletic potential physically, while building each athlete’s mental confidence,” Gough said.

Gough will work with Tim Mulqueen, Lakewood Ranch’s director of sports, to help develop young athletes from the grassroots level to the highest level of their sports.

“This is just another step in providing the community with the most qualified and professional product available,” Mulqueen said. “Mike is at the top of the professional level, and to have him as a resource for our athletes will only enhance our teams and our visiting athletes’ performance, helping to grow this area as the regional sports epicenter.”

Gough will work with the Lakewood Ranch Chargers soccer players and the Lakewood Ranch Lightning lacrosse players and all other host tenants at the Premier Sports Campus along with any athlete out there looking for an edge.

The training center will have a soft opening Labor Day weekend to welcome soccer players for the Nike Cup tournament, attracting more than 300 teams to the area to compete at the Premier Sports Campus.
