+ LLSA Chamber plans for two triathlons
The Longboat Key, Lido Key, St. Armands Key Chamber of Commerce is planning its second triathlon for Sunday, Oct. 23. But, according to Chamber President Tom Aposporos, athletes won’t have to wait a year for the next event, because a May 2012 triathlon is also in the works.

Aposporos said that the October triathlon will be roughly Olympic distance, while the May event will be a “sprint” event at approximately half of Olympic distance.

The chamber is currently seeking volunteers for the October triathlon. For information, call 383-2466.

+ Bird Key Yacht Club to begin facade project
Bird Key Yacht Club will begin its façade project at the beginning of August, according to Commodore Bob Baime. The plan includes exterior and interior renovations and the addition of a second story to the building’s lobby. The club, which typically closes for three weeks during the month of August, will close Aug. 1 and re-open Sept. 5. Major construction will occur during that period. The project is scheduled for completion in November.

The Sarasota-based architectural firm of Heise Meredith Associates Inc. designed plans for the project.

+ Longboat Arts Center to close for August
The Longboat Key Center for the Arts, a Division of Ringling College of Art and Design, will be closed to the public for the month of August. The Arts Center will re-open in September.
