The Longboat Key Fire Rescue Department honored two employees recently for their service to the community.

Officer of the Year honors went to Lt. Mark Fultz. According to Longboat Key Fire Rescue Chief Paul Dezzi, Fultz has been instrumental in the department obtaining a West Coast Inland Navigation District (WCIND) grant to provide EMS and fire-rescue services on the water.

“He’s a go-to guy in terms of fire prevention,” Dezzi said.

Emergency Services Specialist Maureen Monahan received the Chief’s Award. Dezzi describes Monahan as the “unsung hero” of the department. Her responsibilities include budgeting, computer operations and state reporting.

“Her knowledge and expertise are invaluable to our organization,” Dezzi said in a prepared statement. “She is very positive, and when she works on a project, you know it will be completed without questions.”
