Despite overcast skies and a light rain, the mood couldn’t have been better at Longwood Park this morning, where representatives of The Miracle League of Manasota formally broke ground on a new baseball field for individuals with physical disabilities.

“It’s emotional,” Miracle League President Bob Mitchell said of the groundbreaking. “We’re just excited (we’ve) come this far.”

The new field should be play-ready in March. Plans for the field had been in the works since June, 2010. The Miracle League is paying for $500,000 of the $1.2 million.
