Manatee County Commissioners on Tuesday approved an agreement to install solar panels on top of several county facilities. Officials hope the move could save taxpayers up to $100,000 annually.
Under an agreement with Datacomm Services, the county will install 26 solar panel systems at 17 county facilities. Datacomm will sell the county the equipment for $1 a piece at the end or the contract's terms or remove the equipment at no cost.
The county will pay about $4,000 per system in engineering, permitting and net metering costs — about $104,000.
