APRIL FOOLS

— Longboat Key Police officers will generate revenue by ticketing motorists who drive at speeds less than 40 mph on Gulf of Mexico Drive.

— Longboat Key condominiums will join together for a Longboat Key Pink Elephant Royal Rummage Opportunity Sale April 1, all along Gulf of Mexico Drive.

— The town will decrease the number of colors permitted on signs from four to two to generate additional sign-code violation revenue.

$99,154.05 — The town will install parking meters at Town Hall and all Key shopping centers and beach accesses. Violators of the one-hour parking limit will receive $25 tickets.

$37,219.83 — Town Manager Bruce St. Denis will cook his famous hot dogs, burgers and Cuban sandwiches, while Public Works Director Juan Florensa will prepare his famous salsa to sell at “Friday Feasts,” held from noon to 2 p.m. every Friday, at Bayfront Park Recreation Center.
$37,962 — Employees of the Longboat Key Parks and Recreation Department will give historic tours of the island on Segways.

— Town Hall will eliminate its phone system, allowing residents to voice questions, concerns and complaints via their choice of Facebook or Twitter as an alternative.

$22,412 — Longboat Key police will add a fuel surcharge when they respond to non-emergency neighborhood disputes and thefts of items from unlocked homes and vehicles.

$16,274.03 — The Longboat Key Garden Club will hold a non-native plant sale for snowbirds to benefit the town April 1, in Joan M. Durante Park.

$13,777.66 — Code Enforcement workers will only look for code violations from 7 a.m. to 7:42 a.m. Tuesdays. Board.

$7,426.99 — Commissioners will no longer be provided with snacks, tea, coffee and cookies during meetings. (A collection plate will be placed at the front of Town Hall for concerned residents who want to contribute to the Hungry Commissioners Fund.)
