Firefighters hold training days near Sarasota Bay

Where’s the fire? From Sept. 28 through Sept. 30, Longboat Key firefighter/paramedics could be seen in the bay area around Longboat Key on Marine-9, the department’s Advanced Life Support medical and fire-suppression rescue boat. The firefighters were conducting training exercises, which included using GPS operations, fire-pump operations and hose deployment. Some fast facts about the Marine-9:

• The unit can flow a total 650 gallons of water per minute through a master stream and two hand-held hoses.

• Marine-9 responds to fire and rescue calls with a minimum of three fire-rescue workers and usually four.
