LBK grandson leads Blue Devils to Final Four

Grand Bay resident Stuart Scheyer, aka The Longboat Observer’s Energetic Traveler, was understandably proud this past weekend as he and his wife, Lois, watched their grandson, Jon Scheyer, captain of the Duke basketball team, lead his team to the NCAA Final Four.

“For many years, I had some personal status as the CEO of a growing company,” Scheyer says. “After that, I had greater status as Lois Scheyer’s husband. But nothing compares to being Jon Scheyer’s grandfather!”

Jon Scheyer is a terrific basketball player, but his grandfather says his strengths are his leadership,calmness and humanity. “He really motivates that team,” Stuart Scheyer says. (Jon Scheyer, a senior, served as captain of the team last year, as well.)

Although the Scheyers have tickets to Indianapolis for the Final Four, they think they’ll watch the games on TV here on Longboat Key. They rather like all the close-ups and instant replays of their handsome grandson.
