+ Lion’s Club awards $12,000 in scholarships
Now in its fourth year of providing college scholarships, the Sarasota Lions Club is giving up to $12,000 to three students from Sarasota high schools this year. The scholarships are for $1,000 each year for up to four years, depending on the student maintaining enrollment and grades, and are based on need, leadership and community involvement.

The 2010 award winners are: Shelby Hill, of Booker High School, who plans to attend the University of South Florida and study to become a mid-wife or special-education kindergarten teacher; Rebecca Stevens, of Riverview High School, who is also planning to study education at the University of South Florida; and Hannah Bradford, of Sarasota High School, who will attend Warner University and wants to become an elementary-school teacher.
