+ Green recognized for her United Way volunteer work
Longboat Key resident Lois Green donated her time to the United Way for many years without expecting anything in return, so she was surprised to learn she had received the organization’s Alexis de Toqueville award for outstanding leadership and being an inspiration to others.

Green received the award at the United Way of Central Massachusetts’ 90th anniversary celebration May 18, in Worcester, Mass.

Green’s work with United Way has included chairing the organization’s fundraising campaign, co-founding the Women’s Initiative and serving as interim president in 2005.

“Although I have to confess, I have coveted this award since it was first given, but I never thought it was possible to receive it, because I had never given at that level,” Green said in a prepared statement. “Once again, I realized that giving was much more than dollars donated.”
