Longboat Key Gourmet Lawn Party  

What: Enjoy samplings from more than 30 local restaurants and beverages. Organized by the Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key, the event will benefit local children’s charities and scholarships. Tickets are $50 and include a raffle ticket. Visit lbklawnparty.org.

Presidential Health and World Politics — Takes place at 2 p.m. at Temple Beth Israel, 567 Bay Isles Road. In the first of the two-part series, Allan Schwartz will discuss President Lyndon B. Johnson. Members are free; nonmembers are $5. Call 383-3428.

 

Friday, Dec. 4

Holiday Night of Lights — Takes place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on St. Armands Circle. Kick off the holiday season when St. Armands lights up its Christmas tree. The Sarasota High School theater and drama departments and the Cuban Ballet School will perform, and there will be a Christmas carol sing-a-long and an appearance by Santa. Call 388-1554.

 

Saturday, Dec. 5

Toy and Food Collection — Takes place from 9 a.m. to noon at Christ Church of Longboat Key, Presbyterian, 6400 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Bring unwrapped toys, books and bikes for Turning Points and canned goods for Our Daily Bread. The gifts will be distributed to homeless children or those at risk of becoming homeless in Manatee County. Call 383-1731.

 

Sunday, Dec. 6

Holiday Brunch and Mini Bazaar — Takes place at 11 a.m. at Longboat Island Chapel, 6200 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Enjoy a brunch and purchase various Christmas products and gifts. To make a reservation for brunch, call 383-6491.

 

Tuesday, Dec. 8

Longboat Key Democratic Club — Takes place at 11:30 a.m. at the Portofino Restaurant, 2600 Harbourside Drive. David Verinder, president and CEO of Sarasota Memorial Hospital, will speak. Cost is $25. Call 383-4899.

 

Thursday, Dec. 10

Chamber of Commerce Holiday Business After Hours — Takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Harry’s Continental Kitchens, 525 St. Judes Drive. Network while enjoying complimentary hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and door prizes. Cost is $5 for members; $10 for nonmembers. Call 383-2466.

 

Saturday, Dec. 12

Save Our Seabirds Run with the Birds — Takes place from 8 to 11 a.m. at Ed Smith Stadium, 2700 12th Street, Sarasota. The 5K and 1-mile fun run will begin in the stadium parking lot and finish at home plate. An eco-friendly festival with food, beer and music will follow. Proceeds will benefit Save Our Seabirds. Cost is $30 for the 5K; $25 for the 1-mile fun run. Call 388-3010.
